Music Group

Report, 2003

The Music Group have played at least three times a month (Evening Praise, Morning Parade and Morning Worship) throughout the year. In addition, the piano has been used alongside the organ at further services. This allows for a variety of music to support worship at Norbury.

The extra space afforded by the reordering of the church has been helpful for setting up the Music Group for services.

Our repertoire includes a variety of songs, including many from Mission Praise and Spring Harvest and is increasing all the time. At the last count, there were 144 songs written out on my computer!

For the Christmas Carol service, we experimented with special arrangements which were written for two songs, Mary's Child by Geoffrey Ainger and Hear the Sound of People Singing by Graham Kendrick. These arrangements were challenging and required several practices, but were enjoyable to perform and hopefully were also enjoyed by the congregation.

We are lucky at Norbury to have a good number of enthusiastic instrumentalists and singers - 26 people have offered their talents this year! We are always pleased if new players and singers would like to join - please contact me if you are interested.
