It is time to hand over to a younger and perhaps more energetic group who will bring fresh ideas for social activities. |
The present social committee was formed in 1988 after originally functioning as the Development Committee, raising the funds for the new buildings of the narthex, Legh Room and kitchen. After working so hard to raise money for ourselves it was decided that the new social committee would concentrate on the wider world and devote their efforts to donating profits from their functions to a wide variety of charities. Over the years 1988 to 2009 our donations have totalled £23,878 and this money has been spread over many local and national charities, also sending money to India for Azariah’s work. Naturally the members of the committee have changed from time to time, but many have served for a long time and I would like to pay tribute to them for their efforts. I am sure people will remember with pleasure the Harvest suppers, the Christmas buffets and concerts, New Year parties, barbeques, hoe-downs, band concerts, antiques evenings, table top sales, Victorian evenings 20’s evenings, visits to York, Oxford, Lincoln, Ludlow, Port Sunlight (to name but a few), and the numerous theatre trips. We like to think that we have helped to foster a convivial and friendly fellowship and we hope this will continue when the new committee is formed. We wish them well. The theatre trips as mentioned on the narthex notice board will still go ahead and by the time you read this we will have had the last Parish Outing, which we have arranged, when a coach of 50 people will have visited Bodnant Gardens and Conway and hopefully will have had a good day out.
