General

Leaders of all organisations in the church are responsible to the PCC for ensuring that they are working within the guidelines of the Norbury Church Mission Statement in all their work.

Clergy

General

  • To lead worship – ensuring that we maintain variety and appeal
  • To lead home groups, Alpha courses and school assemblies
  • To preach, linking faith to life
  • To lead committees
  • To co-ordinate pastoral work with the Parish Assistant
  • To carry out Baptisms, Thanksgivings, Marriages, Funerals and the clergy surgery
  • To enable church members to develop their gifts
  • To keep contact with the wider church
  • To manage publicity
  • To review the work of those doing various tasks in the church, and to support them.

Vicar

  • To give a lead over the main direction of the church – ensuring that forward planning remains high on any agenda
  • To take overall responsibility for worship, especially selecting hymns
  • To ensure, with the churchwardens, that due procedures are carried out, for example, Faculty applications
  • To lead the PCC and Standing Committee
  • To ensure that administration is carried out, especially for buildings and land – in particular the church building, the churchyard and the playing fields.

Assistant Minister

  • To enable the church to focus on mission
  • To coordinate Alpha Courses
  • To provide particular training and support for the Readers
  • To coordinate the Norbury church focus on world concerns.

Curate

  • To develop contacts in Parents and Tots
  • To chair the Youth Leaders’ Council
  • To coordinate the CYPECS groups
  • To coordinate the Holiday Club.

Church Staff

Verger

  • To be responsible for the cleanliness of the church and the maintenance of the churchyard
  • To assist at worship
  • To prepare and clear church rooms for meetings and events.

Assistant Verger

  • To do the verger’s work in his absence.

Youth Worker

  • To develop work among young people – especially 11-25 year olds – in the church, by being personally involved, by supporting and training others and by exploring possibilities for growth and development.

Church Officers

Churchwardens

  • To be responsible, in cooperation with the incumbent, for every aspect of the life and work of the church. Each should seek to be a friend and adviser to the incumbent, the PCC and all who belong to the church.
  • To ensure the smooth running of all services
  • To maintain the inventory, terrier (land records) and log book up to date
  • To prepare faculty applications on behalf of the PCC.

Deputy Wardens (and Wardens emeriti)

  • To be on duty at the 8 am Sunday services
  • To stand in for wardens when they are not available.

Sidespeople

  • To provide a first contact with people arriving at the Church in a friendly and welcoming manner, also responsible for tidying the pews after each service.

Welcome Stewards

  • To ensure that people attending receive a welcome when attending church.

Organisations

CYPECS Group Leaders

  • To provide Christian Education according to the age group, along with fun, friendship and prayers
  • To arrange outside activities for the older age groups throughout the year. (The CYFA group also discusses current issues which are particularly relevant to their age group.)

Adult Organisations

  • To provide Christian teaching, worship, prayer, friendship and social activities, as well as working within the wider framework in which some of these groups exist.

Uniformed Group Leaders

  • To work for the aims of the organisation
  • To ensure that activities are well prepared and enjoyable for the young people
  • To encourage young people to attend church, especially at all-age worship (parade service).

Administration

  • To provide secretarial assistance such as typing and copying, to the Clergy, Church officers and organisation leaders
  • To prepare draft copies of the magazine for review and the final masters for external printing
  • To maintain and publish rotas and produce the monthly Worship Arrangements list
  • To maintain the Parish Register, an electronic database of members and church contacts, and use it to produce selected lists
  • To maintain the Grave database giving details of over 4000 graves and 17,000 occupants and the grave contacts, where known.

Finance

General

  • To maintain the account books and handle money in accordance with established policies and guidelines

PCC Treasurer

  • To keep the general accounts of the church under the control of the PCC
  • To calculate and maintain records of staff pay and expenses
  • To prepare financial reports to present to the PCC at each meeting
  • To prepare annual accounts for approval by independent examiners and the PCC and presentation to the Church and Diocese

Gift Aid Secretary

  • To maintain records of Covenants and Gift Aid Declarations
  • To ensure that the tax reclaimed is maximised.

Envelope Secretary

  • To maintain records of envelope gifts
  • To provide summary information to enable tax to be reclaimed wherever possible.
