Cath Palmer, our Children’s Worker updated the PCC on the activities of the Sunday Club. Currently this is a thriving group with a regular attendance each week of more than 25 children. Amongst the many topics covered each week were the Creation, Mums and their love for their children and the Easter story. Cath reported that the children are much more comfortable now when they come into church and love demonstrating to the congregation the activities they have been involved with. So far the new initiative of the “Messy Church” has exceeded our expectations and both sessions held so far have been very well attended. However, the PCC expressed concern at the lack of leaders and falling numbers in the uniformed groups.

The PCC finalised arrangements for the 175th anniversary celebrations of the church with a coffee morning, a barbecue, but unfortunately no barn dance. There will be a service on the Sunday morning led by Richard our new vicar.

The PCC were informed that under the latest Charity Act all members had to register as Trustees and we were informed of the obligations this imposed upon us.

The Treasurer presented the budget for the year that forecast a deficit of over £29,000. The problem stems from reductions in planned giving and occasional offices fees, coupled with increases in spending on maintenance of the church and employment expenses. The PCC in the future will have to examine ways in which we can “manage with less”. David also announced his intention to resign his post at the end of the year, although he was prepared to continue with the book-keeping. The PCC need to consider a replacement Treasurer.

The theft of roof tiles from the Sexton’s store was reported together with damage incurred to the outside water tap and notice board. Both would incur insurance claims and a discussion centred on the increased incidence of vandal damage.

Other issues discussed included people absent from church for a while, progress with the faculty and risk management.
