Let them eat cake

The meeting started with a chorus of happy birthday to Jill Elsby followed by all enjoying a slice of birthday cake.

Churchyard

Stockport Borough Council has taken over the maintenance of a large portion of the church yard and has made an impressive start on tidying it up. However the church is still responsible for a portion of the churchyard so funds are still needed.

Prayer area

A prayer area has been created in church to be known as ‘The Retreat’ for anyone who wishes to use it. It is open to all when ever the church is open.

Transforming worship

A discussion ensued on how worship should and could be transformed. The questions to be considered are:

  • How is worship conducted – do we need new orders of worship?
  • How can we ensure that worship comes alive?
  • How can we give a sense of belonging to all.

Finance

The deficit for 2008 is now forecast to be in the region of £15,000. The budget for 2009 is still showing a deficit of £30,000. Clearly such deficits cannot go on indefinitely.

Church Magazine

The future of the church magazine was discussed. On finance alone it just breaks even, however this does not take account of the amount of time spent by Norbury staff in its publication. It was decided that the future format of the magazine should be discussed at a meeting of interested parties, so if you have any thoughts you would like considered please make them known to any member of the PCC.

Christmas Services

The services for the Christmas season were agreed upon.

Carols will be sung at Sainsbury’s supermarket at 6.30pm on 16th December.

It was decided that a leaflet advertising the Christmas services at Norbury will be delivered to every house in the parish.

Norbury Vision

At a recent staff away day the vision statement for Norbury was agreed, and subsequently amended This affirms that, as a community of faith, we should be:

  • Committed to Prayer
  • Welcoming to all
  • Transformed by worship

and that we should be one in the love of Christ

The meeting closed with prayers led by Sylvia Scott
