For the meeting held on 21st July 2008

Norbury Sports clubs have at last held their A.G.M. and it was decided to hold the September PCC meeting at the bowling club, to be proceeded by an inspection of the facilities and the condition of the pitches.

A new gas cooker for the kitchen has been purchased and the electrical work required before it can be fitted has been completed.

The churchyard closure will be effective from the 3rd August 2008 and the Council will then be responsible for the maintenance of about two thirds of the churchyard. The church will, however, still be able to retain overall control.

It was pleasing to note in the finance report that income in nearly all areas had improved and was above budget; meanwhile expenditure was more or less currently within budget. However, the new gas and electric contracts, when in place, will show considerable increases on previous years. The PCC approved the removal of Martin Collins as bank signatory and his replacement by Michael Cheslett.

Our Children’s Worker, Cath Palmer, submitted her report for the 6 months to July 2008. She reported that the Sunday Club was proving very successful with 64 on the register and an average weekly attendance of 32. In a very successful weekend in April, 22 children together with leaders went to Savio House at Bollington where the theme was “achievements” and it was agreed to book again for next year.

Cath updated us on progress with preparations for the Holiday Club that will run from 11th to 15th August. This year's theme is Jungle Jamboree, and 92 children have signed up, with the ratio of one leader to 5 children. Cath also told us of future planned activities, progress with the Toddler Group, school assemblies and All Age Worship.

The PCC approved the principle that leaders and helpers at external residential events organised for young people, should be expected to contribute to their food costs. This will help to offset the losses being sustained on these events.

The PCC agreed to establish four “Vision Groups” to look into and report back on:

  • Prayer
  • Worship and Teaching
  • Mission and Evangelism
  • Children and Young People.

Each group will consider four basic questions:

  1. What are we doing well and can we do better
  2. What are we not doing well and can we embrace change
  3. What are we doing that we shouldn't be doing
  4. What are we not doing that we should be doing.

The results will no doubt be very interesting and will be reported in future jottings.
