PCC was held on a beautiful May evening. Following the annual meeting in April, Mo Hughes and David Scott were re-elected with acclamation as PCC secretary and treasurer respectively. John Millington and Stuart Shawcross, together with Hugh Griffiths, were welcomed as new members.

We learnt that your church needs various improvements, such as a new clock winding mechanism, electrical work, a new cooker and new projector screens. All of these are in hand, but details have to be worked out and regulations are such that this is taking longer than expected. Plus the small matter of funding the improvements! An added complication is that our roof lead is still proving popular with unsavoury characters.

Whilst on the subject of money matters, the treasurer could report that whilst cash flow is still positive, so far we are around £6,500 worse off compared with last year, so this does not bode well for the year end.

One important item is raised at every PCC, namely if anyone who normally comes to church has been missing for a while. Perhaps they are ill or immobile and would welcome the church to contact them. It is not easy for the PCC members on their own to notice absentees, so the whole congregation is asked to let the clergy know if someone has not been seen for some time.

And now to a surprise! For the price of one magazine you get two PCC reports, as we also met in early June to prepare for the selection of the next incumbent.

Michael Cheslett ably led the meeting, and we enjoyed tea and biscuits as well as a fruitful discussion (but no fruit cake).

It was decided that our two church wardens will represent the PCC during the recruitment process and that the post will be advertised. Sadly, it is not likely that we shall be able to afford a commercial on ITV, but if you are interested in this exciting posting, now is the time to take out a subscription of Church Times!

The PCC battled for a while with the intricacies of the Patronage (benefices) measures 1986, Form 31, Form 34 and the Episcopal ministry act of synod 1993 and the Ordination of women measure 1993. It was decided without a vote to accept a vicar of either gender. It is interesting to note that our patron, Lord Newton, has the final say in the selection process as it is he who presents the new clergy person to the Bishop.

But most of the time was taken up discussing our wish list for the new incumbent and the church. Surprisingly, things like a Daniel Craig lookalike, were not specified, but a range of desirable characteristics were listed as were sought-after developments for the parish. It will now fall on our church wardens to make the best out of this during the selection process, so if you want to influence matters you will need to stay on friendly terms with them!
