The meeting started with Cath giving us a report from Sunday Club, the new name for Sunday School, and her other activities. There are five children that are “new” to Norbury, with an average attendance of 25 during Sunday Club. Holiday Club in August was a great success. 75 children attended the week, which had the theme “Monsters Stink”, a play on the Disney film Monsters Inc.

Eight children went to Savio House in Bollington in September for a weekend retreat. Cath assured us that the children (and helpers) had a good time, in a beautiful setting.

Cath also told us that she is embarking on a Children’s Ministry course at Chester University. Somewhat confusingly, this takes place in Altrincham.

It was reported that Back-to-Church Sunday on 30th September had been a success, with several new faces at church. To ensure that nobody drifts away, it was agreed to arrange this service again next year.

Unusually, at this point your Scribe got involved in the proceedings. Being a typical man, he was unable to multi-task talking and taking notes, so there are no jottings from this section of the meeting.

We learnt that Stockport Council will work in our churchyard to ensure that all gravestones are safe, and where necessary stake those memorials that pose a risk. Even if the stakes are not designed to enhance the view of the churchyard, it is hoped for that the congregation has understanding for this work, which is essential and undertaken under national guidelines.

David Scott reported that September had managed to turn our finances (as expected) from positive to negative cash flow. There were several reasons for this, not least that Norbury church has proved to be popular with the “wrong” people, i.e. those stealing the lead off our church roof. The roof is now being repaired using stainless steel, which hopefully will prove less profitable and more difficult to remove.

Finally, the meeting learnt that this year there will be no Christmas Card delivered to each door by Churches Together. Instead, information about the various services will be distributed with the new Community News colour magazine. Or why not look in this edition of your magazine!
