The PCC were informed of the arrangements for Back to Church Sunday on the 30th September. Leaflets have been made available since the beginning of September for those who wish to invite others, and some people have been sent invitations through the post. We were informed that a meeting about the closure of the churchyard had taken place in August with representatives of the Council. It was confirmed that the Council would take over responsibility for the maintenance of the churchyard and the safety of memorials from the beginning of August 2008. The lime tree by the rubbish bin is now damaging the wall and the Council have agreed to remove the tree preservation order to enable the tree to be felled. Eight people have already signed up for the Alpha course. The introductory meeting was held on 19th September. The report on the Church finances as at the end of August indicated that there had been an increase in income, and expenditure was below budget so far. The likely deficit at the year end was forecast to be within budget - altogether a much better picture than we had been expecting. |
Following a number of thefts, the lead on the church roof between the church and the narthex will be replaced with stainless steel, which will be more difficult to remove. Our insurers will fund most of the cost. Residents in Church Grove have requested that the conifers at the west end of the car park be lowered by about two meters. The meeting decided to compare the cost of lopping with total replacement with a hawthorn hedge. A prayer area is to be provided in the front left pew in the nave, far enough away from any activity taking place in the narthex. A small notice will be placed there on the pillar by the pew stating Quiet Prayer Area. Other items discussed included developing the music in the Communion service, how to attract new members to the fellowship groups and contacting people who have been absent from church for a while.
