Youth Worker. Catie-Anne gave a report on the activities of the youth of the church including progress with the “Going deeper” meetings that now take place at 12.30pm on Sundays.

Future plans include a long weekend at Lockerbrook (in the Peak District, where a group went this year) at the end of May 2008.

Back to Church. The Welcome committee reported progress on arrangements for Back to Church Sunday being held on Sunday 30th September 2007.

Alpha Course. The alpha course will be running again on Wednesday evenings in the autumn. Any one interested should speak to Sylvia Scott or Martin Collins.

Accounts. The accounts for the first six months of 2007 were presented by David Scott. They show a surplus to date of £4,395, however when expenditure budgeted but not yet incurred is taken into account a deficit for the whole year is still expected.

Standing room only! The committee discussed the possibility of a trial period of all communicants standing to receive communion instead of having the option of kneeling. This would enable eye contact to be made at the time of presenting the bread and the chalice and so make the giving of the communion more personal. It would also reduce the time it takes to distribute the wine and bread. No conclusion was reached.

The timing of the Peace during the Communion service was also discussed. Some members wanted to explore further the possibility of having the Peace at the end of the service, enabling people to greet each other and then go straight into mix and mingle.

Both these matters will be discussed at a future meeting so if any one has views on either of them perhaps they could speak to any member of the PCC.

Social get-togethers. The arranging of more social events for all ages – but especially for young adults – was discussed. Volunteers are to be recruited to form a committee to organise such events. Anyone interested or with any ideas for such an event should contact a member of the PCC.

Notice Boards. It was agreed that we should have less detail on our notice boards. We shall try a poster with a short quotation from the Bible and the main Sunday service times. This will be done in an eye-catching colour.

Forthcoming attractions. A series of sermons on Christian Discipleship is being planned for Lent 2008. These will focus on appropriate ways of giving time, talents and money to the church. Ideas will be presented to the standing committee in October by Martin Smith the Diocesan Adviser on Christian Giving.

And finally Stockport Council has dropped its plans to make a cycle way through the church car park linking the allotments to the A6.
