The PCC considered whether to arrange a Parish Fun Day next year and hoped that a group of younger adults may come forward to help organise this event.

We discussed how to improve communications, both within the church and to advertise our activities to the wider public. Currently both Ann Smith and Elsie Whitehead suggest items that are sent to and often published in the Stockport Times. We decided to continue with this but to also explore further the possibility of better signage boards on the A6.

The report on the Church finances as at the end of May indicated that there had been an increase in income, helped by the receipt of two legacies this year. Expenditure was below budget so far and the likely deficit at the year end was forecast to be within budget. Altogether a much better picture than we were expecting.

The closure of the churchyard was considered and we were informed that a representative from the Council was due to visit to discuss taking over the future maintenance. With this in mind we are currently testing the larger memorials with a “topple tester” as the Council may well insist that all the memorials are in a safe condition before they become responsible. Where any memorials are found to give concern, the families will be contacted and if no response is received after a couple of months, the stones will be laid flat.

We were informed that Kate Smith, who has run the Alpha Course for the past few years, would like someone else to take over. We therefore need to find a new co-ordinator and a meeting will be held in the near future to discuss this.

Other matters discussed included people absent from church for a while, insurance matters, risk management and a training event for members of the PCC, held on the 10th July.
