Read John 14:15-21

Walk on - you'll never walk alone!

Were you one of the many people who, when they bought their first computer, were in fear and trepidation of what they would do when the expert had commissioned it and left them to it? What do we do if we need guidance to do something or if something goes wrong? The disciples must have felt like that when Jesus started to explain that he was leaving (v.2-3).
Computers today have help keys and help lines you can call (but at a price!). For the disciples, Jesus promised that he would pray for a helper for them - not just any helper but the Counsellor (v.16), Comforter, Advocate, Guide, and Interpreter.
This person would not be at the end of a telephone line (or in the next village as in Jesus' time) but living within in each one of them. What a wonderful promise! Jesus in future would never leave them as he did from time to time during his ministry. And that promise is for us too. We are not alone - we have Emmanuel - God with us.
If we are open to the Spirit, we are one with God. and that can help us when we pray because we do not have to rely on ourselves. We can allow the Spirit to guide our praying. So, with the heavenly choirs singing in unison, walk on - you'll never walk alone.
To think about
1. Think about a time when you have felt alone. To whom did you turn?
2. Is praying to God like an unequal conversation? What encouragement do you get from knowing the Holy Spirit is your personal Advocate, Guide and Interpreter?
Prayer
Lord of life, I thank you that in all circumstances of life, you are with me. Make me ever aware of this, especially in the difficult times.
