Bible Study - 1 Corinthians 1:3-9

Read 1 Corinthians 1:3-9
Paul gives thanks for the members of the early Corinthian church and the many blessings they have received through their relationship with Jesus. In fact, Paul states that they have not failed to receive a single blessing.
Why was this? Were they super Christians with a special hot line to God?
No they were ordinary Christians, people like us, who had allowed Jesus to become the centre and focus of their lives. They were living in communion with Jesus, tuned into him, living their lives for him and able to receive the many blessings that God has promised to all Christians, including us.
They spent quality time with Jesus, in prayer and worship, alone and with other Christians. They were willing to listen to Him and to allow the Holy Spirit to teach and guide them into all truth, so that they were able to receive many blessings.
Prayer and worship was a top priority for them, a special time when they could give themselves to Jesus in thanksgiving, adoration and prayer. And, as they practiced being in His presence this communion with Him extended into the whole of their lives: to everything that they did, said or thought, so that they were able to receive many blessings from God.
To think about
This is a challenge for each of us individually and for the fellowship at Norbury Church. What priority does God have in our lives? Are we willing to give him top priority, and to spend quality time with Him in prayer and worship, individually and as a fellowship?
Prayer
Heavenly Father help us to give you top priority in our lives, to spend quality time with you in prayer and worship, to be willing to follow the promptings of your Holy Spirit and be able to receive your many blessings. Amen.
