Bible Study - Matthew 9:35-38

Read Matthew 9:35-38 - A world in need
Today's world can be a frightening place. It seems that the idyllic gentle pace of yesteryear has long gone. Everything is changing. We struggle to keep up with the latest technology until it becomes too much for us and then we rely on the children to help us through. Yet yesteryear was not as idyllic and gentle paced as it seemed - long working hours, six day working weeks just to earn enough for basic food and shelter; no modern conveniences.
In the third world today, living has yet to catch up with the affluent West of a century ago. Two thirds of the world is in physical need, the other third is harassed (v36). So many in the world today are helpless (v36). Jesus' reaction was compassion. Although he was the Son of God, he did not sort out the problem himself. He involved the disciples in seeking help from the Father.
If we feel at times that situations are just too big or bad for us to do anything, take it to God in prayer and ask for harvest workers. But don't be surprised if God ultimately calls you to be one of them.
To think about
1. In what way should compassion lead to action?
2. In what harvest field is God calling you to work?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, make us conscious daily that you gave us hands, feet and tongues to use in your service. Enable us to use them for the furtherance of your kingdom.
