Bible Studies, Prayer - Introduction
Exploring Prayer through Bible Readings
The Bible readings over the next four weeks will follow a pattern using the acronym ACTS as the Saturday /Sunday readings. The comments - all written by members of Norbury Church - will hopefully answer such questions as why, what, how, when, and where we might pray, seeking the answers from the Bible passages chosen.
- A: Adoration
- Simply coming before God in love and praise.
- C: Contrition/Confession
- Being sorry for our sins and misdoings, and seeking forgiveness.
- T: Thanksgiving
- Giving thanks to God for his goodness and mercy for answered prayer, for his created world, for the gift of life and love.
- S: Supplication
- Making requests to God, also known as Intercessions; asking for guidance, help, healing; praying for other people, for ourselves; seeking to find purpose in life, praying to know what our roles in life might be; and praying for the whole world.
Bible readings are taken from the NIV (New International Version), with inclusive language -the Bible we use in church.
You might like to begin these readings by saying the prayer that Jesus taught us - the Lord's Prayer.
