Bible Study - Acts 4: 32-37
- Read Acts chapter 4 verses 32-37
- Today we turn to matters of a more practical and down to earth
nature. We have been with the early church as they hit spiritual
heights with the coming of the Holy Spirit; as miracles were performed;
as inspired preaching to great crowds brought many converts; as
uplifting prayers brought lives continually filled by the Holy
Spirit.
- In these six verses we get a snapshot of the day to day life of the
church. Obviously praying and preaching were vital elements of the
ministry of the church but these would have been in vain and shown
their faith to be hollow if there had been no outpouring of love for
others, especially those in need. This was spontaneous generosity from
the heart not something required by a set of rules and
regulations.
- So we find the model for a Spirit filled church and with Barnabas
an example of exemplary generosity. This is our first meeting with
Barnabas (son of encouragement) and we will see if he lives up to his
name as we follow his progress later in Acts.
- Questions
- How can I apply the model of a Spirit filled church to my own
church, to my own life?
- How important to me are my possessions and property? Is my
generosity directed by how much I like someone or by how much need I
see? What is my response to others in need?
- Prayer
- Father God, we thank you for the example of the life of the early
church and ask that as we grow in faith through hearing your word and
prayer our faith will stir us into action when we meet those in
need.
