First Steps (the studies prepared by members of our church) is a useful companion to the first 13 chapters of Acts, with commentaries more colloquial (as well as more humorous at times) than the usual biblical commentaries. I found this helpful as well as thought-provoking.
Reading about Peter and Cornelius (chapters 10 and 11) gave me much food for thought. The question of accepting Gentiles into the Church was obviously a highly controversial matter at the time. I found myself relating it to the matter of the appointment of Canon Jeffrey John as Bishop of Reading, which I was reading about in the press at the same time that I was reading the Acts studies. This was also a highly controversial matter, with strong views on both sides of the issue of homosexuality and homosexual clergy. I am sure that much more thought and prayer is needed on this issue.
