Hugh began his ministry in the Diocese of Southwell (Nottinghamshire). He was ordained deacon in 1971, and priest in 1972.

After serving a curacy, he ran an ecumenical church in a Mansfield parish. He had a large Sunday School and church youth group, as well as an open youth group.

Hugh decided to leave the parish ministry and he trained to be a teacher. He was in teaching for 27 years. For much of this time he taught RE and PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) at Chapel-en-le-Frith High School where he was head of each department. Hugh is married to Vivienne (Viv). They have two sons, Joshua (17) and Thomas (14).

He has now retired from teaching. For the past 18 years he has been attached to St. George’s, Stockport.

Hugh has been coming to Norbury for about a year, mainly in the evening, but occasionally in the morning as well. He was looking for a change, and he has liked what he has experienced at Norbury – in particular the variety of worship, and the blend of ages.

Hugh would like to offer his services to Norbury. He will be involved in leading worship and will attend staff meetings. Rob Green considers that his involvement during the coming vacancy will be particularly helpful.

Hugh, welcome to Norbury Church.
