On Saturday 24th February at 8.30am – yes it was a Saturday – we set off to Newcastle-under-Lyne for a diocesan training day called Toolbox, to give us new ideas for our work at Norbury. We tackled road works, diversions and weekend drivers, but we got there! Between us we did eight separate hour-long workshops on themes such as worship for all, teaching the bible creatively, drama and craft. We got lots of new ideas, so beware. One of the things we found was that what we are doing as a church in terms of young people, we are doing well. Basically we have children and young people at Norbury; many churches have none or very few. We had a welcome and a closing talk and the theme for the day gave us lots to think about. We feel also that we can pass on to you lots to think and pray about. The most important point is that the young people in our church are not our church’s future, they are our PRESENT and our FUTURE. With this in mind we need to think about moving the church forward. |
We were told by the Bishop of Lichfield that Jesus came to start a movement not an institution. The church is a movement and needs to keep moving forwards. Scouting was used as an example; 100 years ago this year Baden Powell set up the scouting movement, and if you look at scouting, it has constantly moved with the times and is still doing so. We came away with the message that we as a church need to keep moving forward, and that those who work with children and young people are the force behind the movement. To survive, we need to move forward and adjust. We are also aware that without your prayers, support and love, we cannot do this work. So thank you, and please continue to keep praying for us. Also bear in mind that we are a MOVEMENT and the youngsters are our PRESENT and FUTURE. God bless you all Catie-Anne and Cath |
